In March of 1987, four very different women with a love of music and a cappella harmony, joined together to form a quartet. Twenty-one years later, Northern Lights quartet is still going strong. Northern Lights are all members of Sweet Adelines International and sing with the Spirit of Harmony Chorus based in Spirit Lake, Iowa. They won the Sweet Adeline International Region 20 Novice Quartet award in 1989, and went on to place first in their regional competitions in 1995, 2000, 2001, and 2002. They have competed on the Sweet Adeline International stage in New Orleans, Orlando, Portland, and Nashville. Since 1993 they have consistently placed in the top five at regional competitions. In November, 2004, they released their first CD, entitled “Lighting Up the Night.” Lead Lorrie Bruns has been a Sweet Adeline and member of the Spirit of Harmony Chorus for 22 years, currently serving as choreographer. Tenor Mindy Jurgensen has been a member of the Spirit of Harmony Chorus for 21 years, currently serving as section leader. Bass Marcia Klingbeil has been a member of the Spirit of Harmony Chorus for 26 years, currently serving as section leader, costume chair, and board member. Baritone Judy Weipert has been a member of Sweet Adelines International for 31 years, and has been directing the Spirit of Harmony Chorus for 9 years.
